It is time to begin the flight... After a few reasoning, I have chosen the Twin Star. I like a lot its shape and I have made several flights with it, so I am confident I know the aircraft.
The only problem that I have with it, is its tendency to float on the runaway during the landing. It is something I have not yet completely figured out, but other than that, I am quite happy:

I have added a small freeware gauge which monitors the fuel usage and the autonomy left, so I can better manage my flights.
The airport from which I will begin the journey is a small airfield in Switzerland, Birrfeld [LSZF] and the general idea is to fly South toward Italy, then across the Mediterranean and then I will see. First flights will be short (250-500 nm) just to see how things develop, as I wil fly with failures on.
I have decided I will use a simple failure model: random (FSX will choose) every 10 hours (600 minutes) of flight. resetting this time interval at the beginning of each flight.
