2nd Leg: LIMJ to LFKF

11.06.10 Genoa-Sestri Airport, Italy, 13:39 local time

After fixing the NAV1 problem and spending a few time in Genoa, it is time to fly again. From Genoa, the idea is to fly South-East following the Coast of Liguria overflying La Spezia, then Pisa and turning right toward the Isle of Elba, fly West toward Corse and once reached Bastia, turn South following the Corsican coast, then turn slighly right and landing at the Corse South/Figari airport [LFKF]. As usual with random failures.

Sestri, back-taxi to runaway 29:
Shortly after take-off, approaching the area of Portofino at approx. 4500':
Overflying the area of Portofino. This is a wonderful place for people who likes to hike around, sighseeing or scuba diving (like me). To dive you need to use a boat and a short trip either from the port of Genova, or from any other nearby place:

Shortly after Portofino. What you are seeing is Santa Margherita Ligure (first town/port) and the Rapallo (second town/port):

Still following the coast of Liguria, just passed the city of La Spezia. This is Bocca di Magra ("Mouth of Magra"), where Magra is a river:

Still following the coast, however this is Tuscany. As you can see, the coast is different, flat and open, whereas the cost of Liguria was rockier, the sea getting quikly deep. Behind the Tuscany coast the terrain is mostly fast, but in Liguria, you have the mountains of the Appenino Ligure immediately behind. People use to say that Liguria is 'squeezed' between sea and mountains:

This is the airport of Pisa, the city is on the left (roughly North), I am about to turn right toward the Isle of Elba. So far I had maintained 4500' of altitude, but from now on I plan to climb to 8500' as I will be over the water and I would like to have a bit more altitude. Weather very good and no problems so far:

Turning toward Elba. I would swear this image is "almost" real:

More or less at midpoint of the flight:

Overflying Elba, I believe this is the town of Mola, even if I am not 100% sure:

Heading West. Clouds between Elba and Corse:

"HB-LUP is feet dry." - This is the East coast of Corse and directly in front of the aircraft there is the airport of Bastia. The East Coast of Corse is flatter (a bit like Tuscany) whereas the West coast is rockier (a bit like Liguria):

Finally arrived. After passing Bastia, I have turned South following the coast, overflying Solenzara [LFKS] Airport, then turning SW to land finally at Figari [LFKF] which is the destination. Figari is quite close to Bonifacio, meaning that I am close to the Southern tip of Corse. During the next leg I will fly South, crossing the strait between Corse and Sardinia, pass Sardina and turn roughly SE, to reach the Western tip of Sicily:
